CAPINTEC PROVIDED SOME GUIDELINES

ON HOW TO DE-GAS ONE OF THEIR DOSE CALIBRATORS

There may be an occasion where a dose calibrator is being retired, and your facility would like to ship it out for disposal.  Some dose calibrators contain pressurized Argon gas which is considered a hazardous material for DOT shipping compliance.  If the instrument is a Capintec model, it can be degassed safely before disposal.  Instructions are attached via this LINK.  We assisted a client doing this to one of their units.  On the first one, the sudden release causing a "pop" and subsequent long "hiss" kind of surprised us but all went well.  You might want to check with your dose calibrator vendor if you are contemplating a similar procedure.
